What We Grow & Make

At Koofie’s Natural Living we believe what you put on your body is as important as what you put in your body. We provide simple, safe and healthy skin and body care products as well as food and traditional herbals for whole body wellness!

Simple, clean ingredients are the missing link to reducing environmental stress on your body. Everything you put in and on your body is an opportunity to simplify. The fewer unknown and complicated ingredients that enter your body, the less difficulty your body has in breaking them down to use or dispose of them.

Environmental stresses on the human body can include anything that your body comes in contact with. Food, chemicals, allergens, pollution, water quality, and air quality are all environmental stressors to humans. Some of these are out of our control but limited the amount of stress can help your body deal with those stressors you cannot control.

Your body knows what to do with the simple ingredients that it’s evolved to encounter. But ingredients with long names or copious processing are not something our bodies know what to do with. These new formulations can cause added stress to a body that’s already dealing with things in our environment we cannot control.

This is exactly why we have created high-quality products for you and your family! We know that providing what is best for your body and to those you love is important to you, and we are committed to creating simple, nourishing products that make you feel good about what you feed and use to care for your body.

Providing simple, clean food and body products for yourself and your family is an investment in your future. Now is the best time to improve your nutrition and reduce chemical stress caused by body products. According to an Environmental Working Group study, the average man uses 6 products per day, the average woman uses 12 products per day, and the average teenage girl uses 17? Let’s make the products you use reflect the quality you deserve.

We are here to help you become the best YOU you can be! We created these products to reduce our own stress on our body and we are here to help you do the same.

My team and I would love to connect with you and help you make these changes! You can join our list to receive a bi-weekly update on our farm products or our body products (or join both for weekly news). Visiting our Facebook or Instagram feeds gives you a way to stay connected to our farm and store. You can visit our online store, and your always welcome to email me!

Eggs

Duck eggs: Our ducks have free-range of the farm. They have a nearby seasonal pond that is usually full in Spring, wet weeks in the summer and autumn, a stream down the hill that runs year-round, and in the summer a small pool I clean and refill a few times a week. They also enjoy a few acres of woods and horse fields for bug foraging. They’re fed fermented GMO-free, corn-free, and soy-free feed. All of our ducks lay large – jumbo sized white or slightly colored eggs. If you don’t know about the benefits of duck eggs, please read our article on them.
Duck eggs are $10.50/dozen and can be purchased for local pick-up in our online store or at The Frederick City Market on Sunday mornings May – November.

Chicken eggs: Our chicken coop is near the duck coop and they often free-range as a large group. Our chickens are also fed GMO-free, corn-free, and soy-free feed. They produce large eggs in shades of brown and green/blue.
Chicken eggs are $6.50/ dozen and can be purchased for local pick-up in our online store or at The Frederick City Market on Sunday mornings May – November.

Meat

Pork: We have a small heard of pigs consisting of one boar and two sows, along with piglets in various stages of growth. The pigs have access to 10-30 acres of woods and are fed fermented GMO-free, corn- and soy-free feed daily in addition to what they glean from the forest. Pork is available as a half or whole hog, in smaller sized- bags, or by the cut. All is available for pre-order or to order in our online store. Please email us for questions about pork information or availability!

Lamb: We are in our third year of producing lamb and our availability is very slim as we grow our herd. Our lamb is out on pasture all year and supplemented with excellent quality hay when the grass isn’t growing. Please visit our online store to pre-purchace a whole lamb or cuts or contact us about lamb.

Body and Home Care

Body Butter: Our whipped body butter is light and fluffy! It is so light it feels like walking through a cloud, but it is incredibly moisturizing. It’s ingredients are shea butter, mango butter,  coconut oil, and essential oils. If you enjoy smooth, creamy lotions you will love this product! We currently are carrying these scents:
~Lavender
~Grounded in Paradise
~Bare Naked

Ditch the Itch: Poison Ivy Relief Salve (Limited Edition). This amazing salve is perfect for those who are prone for poison ivy or who want to have something on hand “just in case”. Ditch the Itch is made from wildcrafted jewelweed and plantain infused in organic olive oil, as well as beeswax.
Note: This is a Limited Edition Product. It can only be offered when we have the supplies to make it; Jewelweed is only available seasonally.

Magnesium Oil: Our magnesium oil is made from magnesium  chloride flakes and distilled water. It’s a great way to apply magnesium transdermally. If you find it causes you itching, we recommend you try spraying it on the soles of your feet or diluting it 50% with water. Over time, most people are able to transition to spraying it on their body or using it full-strength.

Balms and Salves: Our line of luscious lip and body balms began after many requests. We have both regular and tinted lip balms. We currently have two salves: Gardener’s Salves for all-purpose healing and Ditch the Itch, which can help decrease your discomfort from poison ivy (see above).

Who We Are

Farmer Kelsi

Kelsi has been farming since 2015. She decided farming was the life for her after a decade of teaching middle school. No, it was NOT the kids that caused her to switch gears! She’s always loved the outdoors and years inside were not fulfilling to her. She’s building her dream job while apprenticing with Leah of Grazy Days Family Farm.

Eldest Daughter Eirian

Eirian enjoys “supervising”, preferably from inside the house. She’s in charge of anything artistic or creative and is a great help to the business.

Assistant Farmer Abby

Abby enjoys helping on the farm. She especially enjoys caring for baby animals and by driving vehicles. She’s not sure she wants to be a farmer when she is older but is enjoying testing out multiple interests on and off the farm.

Farm Dog Hammi

Hammi joined us in June of 2016 as a two year old. We believe he’s a Newfoundland/ Black Lab mix. He enjoys the wide open spaces and doing chores, but has been known to catch poultry and lick them beyond the point of comfort, so he is currently in training to become less “helpful” around the birds.

Our Story

Kelsi, Eirian and Abby spent quite a few years in Columbia, Maryland where they lived a typical suburban life. Around 2010/11, Kelsi started feeling ill with unexplained pains and memory issues. Fatigue set in and by 2012 she was having a hard time keeping up with 125 middle schoolers each day! One of her stress-relievers was to dream of a quiet farm with animals where she could spend her days outside. Illness forced her to give up teaching and eventually she met Leah of Grazy Days Family Farm, who had a house to rent and was willing to teach Kelsi about farming. The girls were excited for a change of pace and a new environment, as well as a switch to homeschooling. While life is not exactly the idyllic farm scene they all pictured in their heads, living in the country has definitely helped all of them learn and grow over the years.
