New and Novel Uses…

Some of my favorite conversations with customers happen when they tell me how they’ve used our products in ways we hadn’t even thought of!

The other day a customer commented that she’d had a knee replacement and as a result had one spot on her leg where the nerves didn’t heal quite right. She had some numbness and the worst part was it itched terribly, especially at night. She happened to have some of our Ditch the Itch Poison Ivy Salve on hand, so one night she tried it on the spot when the itchiness was particularly bad. She immediately felt relief and was able to sleep at last, after being kept up due to the itching. She now keeps her Ditch the Itch next to her bed!

Another customer uses a compression sleeve and has found our deodorant helps relieve chafing from the sleeve. She just applies the deodorant to the uncomfortable spots before she pulls the sleeve on (or after it’s been on a bot if she forgets). Other clients have found our deodorant to be helpful in areas where skin touches skin and causes sweating and chafing, especially in the summer.

A third customer found herself with a sore backside after a long first day on a European biking tour. She happened to have a roller of Mary Jane’s Last Pain in her first aid kit and found it worked to relieve the discomfort and she was able to ride again the next day.

Many customers have told us they use our body butters on their chapped noses and lips during cold weather or during illness. I did that myself after I couldn’t find my Gardener’s Salve during my last cold!

How do you use our products? We’d love to learn about your discoveries!

A secret…

Shhhh... I'm secretly a fall-lover. I tell myself (and others) how much I love winter, but there is something invigorating about fall. The crisp air and blustery wind makes me feel alive!

This is a very lengthy segue to letting you know that all of a sudden we are back in what I call “body butter season”.

Last month I had a few jars of body butter around the house. I didn’t really know where; they aren’t used much in the Summer here. But in the last week or so, I have found all of the jars and they’re now planted in strategic locations. The largest is next to my bed. I keep that for my hands and feet before I go to sleep. The second (also large) is in the bathroom for after showers, and a third is near the kitchen sink. Finally, there’s the jar in our coffee table drawer for dry hands while watching TV; it doesn’t get much use because TV watching is also clothes-folding time, and body butter and clothes-folding don’t work well together. But, I know where it is just in case!

Without frequent body butter applications in the fall and winter, my hands get dry and cracked. Beyond looking unsightly, they hurt, and the scruffy skin catches on clothing. With body butter, my hands feel like… normal hands! They’re soft and moisturized even in the middle of winter when the cold winds are blowing and the woodstove is sucking all the moisture from the air!

Have you heard of plastic-free July?

Plastic-free JulyΒ is a global movement designed to bring awareness to single-use plastics and encourage consumers to think out of the box in their shopping and daily life. While it’s called “plastic-free”; the campaign encourages you to try to reduce single-use plastics for a day, a week, or the whole month. The best part is that it’s about trying your best rather than being perfect, so don’t hesitate because it feels daunting! The site linked above has a ton of ideas. Take your first steps toward lowering your reliance on single-used plastics today πŸ™‚

Here at Koofie’s Natural Living, we’ve tried since the beginning to avoid the use of single-use plastics as much as possible. We package our goodies in glass if we can, and avoid plastics unless we cannot find an alternative. Because we are a small business, we can also work with you if you are trying to avoid plastic. For instance, we haven’t found an “easy-to-apply but doesn’t leak” alternative to our deodorant containers, but we are happy to package your deodorant in a tin or glass jar. We don’t do this regularly because most of our customers enjoy the easy application with a deodorant tube, but a jar or a tin is a great way to use deodorant if you don’t mind using your fingers to apply it (or get creative with utensils).

We encourage you to ask any of your local small businesses if they have alternatives to plastic available for packaging. Asking not only lets the business know you’re interested in avoiding plastics; it also starts a dialogue between you and the business πŸ™‚

For a list of nearly plastic-free and-low plastic products available through Koofie’s Natural Living, please visit here and let us know if you have any great ideas for packaging. Also, if you’re interested in a larger, refill-size of any products we are happy to work with you!

What would it be like to be ageless… or at least LOOK ageless?

How would you feel finding fewer lines and wrinkles in the mirror?

Within a few months of turning 40, I noticed a deep wrinkle appear between my eyes. I’m not very particular about showing my age but it did surprise me with how fast it appeared! At first I didn’t worry about it too much, but this winter I started playing around with essential oils to see what I could do to to make it disappear and I came up with my Ageless Facial Serum!

Our Ageless Facial Serum can be used both for specific spots of concern and as a moisturizer for your entire face. When I remember, I use about 5 drops for my whole face and when I’m on my way out of the house I just put one drop between my eyes (I’m more likely to do the latter). The serum’s base oil is hemp seed oil, which is one of my favorite oils. It helps ease inflammation and is noncomedogenic (does not cause blocked pores). In it I add essential oils of Frankincense, Sandalwood , Lavender, Myrrh, Helichrysum, and Rose diluted
to total of 1% of the final volume.
